Chelsea, champions of the 2021 UEFA Champions League, and Club América, winners of a record 13 titles in Mexico's top league, have met twice previously. Chelsea won a 2007 friendly between the teams at Stanford Stadium in Palo Alto, Calif., 2-1, and also defeated Club América 2-0 in the finals of the 2009 World Football Challenge in Arlington, Texas.

Arsenal has not faced Orlando City, but previously beat the Colorado Rapids 3-0 in 2019 in Denver in its only previous friendly against an MLS club. The victory marked the first of four games on a coast-to-coast preseason tour, the club’s most recent U.S. visit. The Gunners also defeated the MLS All-Star team 2-1 in 2016 during the league’s All-Star festivities in San Jose, Calif.

Orlando City has appeared in 18 international friendlies since its inaugural season in 2011, including previous exhibitions against Newcastle United (2011), Stoke City (2012 and 2016) and West Brom (2015) of the English Premier League. Charlotte FC is in its debut MLS season and set the league's single-game league attendance record with 74,479 fans at the club's inaugural home match in March. Chelsea also previously visited Bank of America Stadium in 2015 for a friendly against Paris-Saint Germain.

Arsenal and Chelsea are longtime London adversaries who split a pair of matches during the 2021-22 Premier League season. The Blues’ most recent U.S. appearance came in April 2019, in a postseason charity match against the New England Revolution of MLS.
